COLUMBUS CREW vs DAYTON DUTCHLIONS FC 1-2

On May 30, 2012, Dayton Dutch Lions FC gained national recognition after beating MLS side Columbus Crew at their home with a 1-2 score in. front of 1.700 fans. After being behind 1-0 in the 64th minute (pk converted by Vargas after a foul on Meram), Gerrit-Jan Bartels scored the equalizer in the 79th minute (assisted by Daniel Holowaty who just entered the game) and Gibson Bardsley scored the game winner in the 81st minute after another assist of Holowaty. The Lions were able to hold on to the lead qualifying for the last 16 in the US Open Cup. 

 

In the next round the Lions beat Michigan Bucks on the road reaching the quarterfinal. The team, lead by Ivar van Dinteren and Jack Hermans, ended up losing 3-0 away at Sporting Kansas City SC in front of 16.000 fans.
