Harrisburg, July 13 2012 – The Dayton Dutch Lions FC tied the Harrisburg City Islanders tonight in front of 1240 spectators: 0-0. Goalie Matt Williams recorded 8 saves on the night keeping another clean sheet leaving the Lions with only one loss in last 5 games.
It was kind of a surprise that the game ended scoreless with both teams creating several scoring opportunities. Although Harrisburg had most of the possession and outshot the Lions 15-5 the Lions also had three good opportunities to score themselves through Dias (off a corner kick that went through the box and Dias wide open at the second post and shot just wide from close range), a rocket from MacNamara at the top of the 16 (just going over the crossbar) and a header from Copier just going wide of an inswinging corner kick of Priestley. All chances came in a good second half from the Lions.
The biggest two chances however were for Harrisburg, one after 10 minutes after a through ball and the ball was played to the right off Williams but went just wide and the biggest one in he 69th minute when Mellor went one on one with Williams but he had an incredible save keeping it 0-0. In the last minute Touray threatened once more with a shot from the top right corner of the box that missed goal by a few inches.
Head Coach Ivar van Dinteren was happy with the draw for his team: “I think Harrisburg is one of the best teams in the League. They have speed upfront with 3 guys and a great playmaker behind them. They are very dangerous in the transition. I think the first half we were a little lucky and I was not happy with our play, but in the second we were definitely in the game, playing our passing game and it could have gone either way”.
The Lions play Harrisburg again this coming Wednesday July 18 at Bellbrook High School at 7.30pm.
