DAYTON, Ohio – Traveling from the Midwest to the West Coast, the Dayton Dutch Lions take on the Los Angeles Blues at Titan Stadium at Cal State Fullerton in a pair of this games this weekend, with the teams meeting on Friday night at 10:30 p.m. ET and again on Sunday evening at 8 p.m. ET.
The Dutch Lions (0-5-5) are hungry after 1-1 tie with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds last Saturday. Meanwhile, the Blues (3-3-2) are looking to bounce back after a 1-1 tie at Orlando City on May 24 and a 1-0 loss at the Charleston Battery two days later.
“It’s going to be two difficult games in LA but we always play well against them,” said Coach Ivar Van Dinteren. “Their style of play suits us because it is similar to our style of play. I think LA has a good team, but we are as good as them. I hope all the bad luck we had this year will be done. The only way we can turn that around is to work harder than we ever have and we stick with the game plan. We travel to LA looking to win both games.”
In the last meeting between the two teams, Blues defeated the Dutch Lions 1-0 May 11 in Dayton. The lone goal came in the 73rd minute by Blues captain Allan Russell after he had shot a penalty kick high five minute before. Russell leads Los Angeles with six points on the season (two goals and two assists) and has 10 shots. Both teams have former players listed on the rosters. George Davis IV played for the Lions for two years before leaving for Los Angeles this past offseason. Davis has recorded four shots and three fouls in six games, including one shot and one foul against Dayton. Akeem Priestley, formerly of the LA Blues, has a recorded 10 shots and seven fouls in eight games.
